Studio 4 is a site-specific project located at Mount. Wilson.

My research about colonial naming of species and land leads me to explore ways of reimagining the narrative of land through renaming and unnaming practices.
Drawing inspiration from an indigenous navigation method called "songlines," which are paths across the land within the animist belief systems of Aboriginal cultures in Australia, I propose an a navigation system that allows visitors to to use compose their own songlines when navigating an unknown land.
Using universal visual languages of dots, lines, and shapes, the visitors first translate their experience of way-finding into visual form, then use the hand-cranked music box to play it out.
Rather than replying on maps and gps, visitors will engage in a map-making practice as a means for way-finding, in order to build a personal narrative that connects them to the land.
